Harlingen Convention Center Breaks Ground

On Friday, August 4 the city of Harlingen gathered to celebrate the ground breaking on the new BR&P designed convention center. Construction began in mid-August.

“This facility will bring us to a new level!” said Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell. “It will bring a lot of people to stay in the hotel and spend their money in our community.” The convention center will be a hub for events such as weddings, quinceaneras, business meetings, exhibits and displays.

“This facility will bring us to a new level!” said Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell. “It will bring a lot of people to stay in the hotel and spend their money in our community.”

Designed with local south Texas elements, the facility will feature tall arched windows. A fountain and reflecting pool will welcome guests to the building, as well as tall glass doors that enter into a sprawling lobby. The 17,100 sq. ft. main ballroom will hold more than 1,500 people and have high ceilings. The ballroom will also be able to be organized into smaller breakout meeting areas.

Attached to the convention center will be a BR&P designed five story Hilton Garden Inn. The hotel will have 150 rooms, including spaces for meeting rooms, a breakfast area, an outdoor pool and a fitness center.
