SPRINGFIELD, MO – Geoffrey H. Butler, AIA, founder and CEO of Butler, Rosenbury & Partners, Inc., presented a paper titled: A Sustainable Approach to Development at Les Respirations D’Enghien-les-Bains last week. Les Respirations is an annual international congress that provides a platform for world-renowned speakers and experts to address issues of air and water quality.
Over the past four years, Les Respirations has seen more than two hundred international specialists address the current state of air and water quality and the relevant consequences of human influence. The conference provides the most comprehensive congress on air and water quality with topics including: climate change, human displacement, renewable energy, emissions trading, respiratory diseases, and many more. Through a combination of seminars, ceremonies and workshops, Les Respirations explores the current global situation and facilitates for the development of innovative technologies and policies that will help us build a sustainable future.
Mr. Butler presented a paper on Sustainability in regard to the development work proposed for The Cross Roads Development in South Springfield. Some main topics of his presentation included an overall look at traditional development and this new sustainable approach. This approach includes Low Impact Development techniques, conservation, water quality and storm water management issues. Also included is the use of geo-thermal energy, using more green space and less impervious surfaces, as well as the use of a creative Planned Development zoning that will provide opportunities for more sustainable and “greener” development.
The project, a development of Bill Killian of Killian Construction, and the Childress and Hawkins Family, is continuing to gain recognition for its sustainable approach. Rob Murray of RB Murray Co. is presenting this development to potential commercial developers nationwide and internationally for potential expansion of their operations.
