BR&P's project, the Interstate Grocer Building, wins two awards!

SPRINGFIELD, MO - Butler, Rosenbury & Partners (BR&P) is pleased to announce that one of our recent projects, the Historic Interstate Grocer Building in Joplin, MO, has won two awards from Missouri Preservation. BR&P was the architect, structural engineer and LEED Accredited Professional on the historic preservation and adaptive re-use project.

First, the Joplin Heritage Trust Award, recognizing the project for outstanding preservation work. The Joplin Heritage Trust Awards were one-time awards given by Missouri Preservation to projects along historic Main Street in Joplin. The awards carry the same namesake as Joplin's pioneering preservation organization, Joplin Heritage Trust.

Second, our project has been awarded a Preserve Missouri Award which recognizes outstanding preservation efforts and projects around the state. For 2012, only seven projects in Missouri have been chosen to receive this honor.

"It is an honor to be recognized by preservtationists and peers statewide for rehabilitating such a significant historic structure in Joplin," Christopher Swan, AIA, Project Manager, Architect & Partner. Swan will be in attendance at Missouri Preservation's 2012 Annual Awards Ceremony in Jefferson City in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. State legislators will also be in attendance.

A Joplin landmark built in 1915 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Interstate Grocer Building had been vacant for several years. Originally constructed to serve as a warehouse and office for the Interstate Grocer Company, the building included unique features such as terra cotta decorative trim, stenciled concrete columns, large steel windows, and transom glass made of prisms designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for other buildings. The site also includes a one-story brick garage historically associated with the operations of the Interstate Grocer Company.

BR&P specializes in architecture, structural engineering, planning and project management locally, regionally and nationally. The company has been in business for more than 33 years in Springfield, MO.
